The Pivot
In this episode of The Coffee with Karen podcast, Karen Roberts interviews Jorge Vasquez, a life coach who helps people achieve a balanced life by focusing on the mind, body, and spirit. Jorge shares his personal story of going through a difficult period when he lost everything after being betrayed by his business partner and wife. He was left homeless and receiving hate mail from his investors. However, a junior marine he used to mentor approached him for help, which became a turning point for Jorge. He realized that he could use his knowledge and experience to help others, and this gave him a sense of purpose.
Karen and Jorge discuss how people can pivot during challenging times and find meaning in their lives. They talk about the importance of focusing on what you can control and how having a balanced life can help you cope with stress and setbacks. Karen emphasizes the need for self-care and how small changes can make a big difference. Jorge also talks about how he helps his clients identify their values and goals and create a plan to achieve them.
The conversation then shifts towards the difficulties men face in expressing their emotions and how societal expectations often force them to keep their emotions bottled up. The hosts agree that it is unfair that men are not encouraged to talk about their emotions without fear of judgment. The conversation also touches upon the issue of extremism in gender politics and how it is not necessary to go to either extreme of masculine or feminine energy.
The podcast hosts also discuss the loneliness that often comes with entrepreneurship and how networking and coaching events can be helpful in connecting with like-minded individuals. The conversation turns to the struggles that men face in acknowledging their need for help and why it is difficult for them to ask for it. They discuss how societal conditioning, particularly in the military, can contribute to men suppressing their emotions.
In the latter part of the episode, Jorge talks about his experiences during the lockdown in March 2020. He shares that he had already lost everything before the lockdown and was on the street, donating plasma to pay for his phone bill and food. However, he found inspiration in this experience and believes that there is always a silver lining and something to learn from it. He learned that he needed balance in his life, as he was spending too much time working and not enough time with his significant other. This caused problems in their relationship and made him realize the importance of setting boundaries. He also talks about his health issues and how he navigates through them holistically. He believes that our bodies are designed to heal themselves, and we just need time, focus, and energy to dedicate to it. He stresses the importance of rest and recuperation and has a morning, afternoon, and evening ritual to help him maintain balance in his life.
In the final part of this podcast, Jorge talks about the importance of maintaining a positive routine to stay balanced and deal with problems effectively. He emphasizes the need to complete one's routine before addressing any problems that may arise. The conversation then shifts towards the impact of stress on modern-day society, despite the absence of physical threats like bears and tigers. Jorge highlights the cyclical nature of society, with tough times breeding strong men and soft times breeding weak people. He also talks about the role of masculinity and femininity in the workplace, stating that people should not confuse taking on masculine roles with success in male-dominated areas. The podcast concludes with an engaging conversation on the importance of balancing masculine and feminine energies to succeed in the business world.
Overall, this podcast episode offers practical tips and insights on how to stay positive and resilient during tough times. It also delves deep into the personal experiences of Jorge Vasquez, providing listeners with valuable perspectives on personal growth and success. The episode's unique perspective on the role of masculinity and femininity in the workplace is both thought-provoking and enlightening, making it an essential listen.
